LM Montgomery's Birthplace

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874 in Clifton (now New London) to Hugh John Montgomery and Clara Woolner Macneill. The little house she was born in was her home for just the first 21 months of her life. When her young mother - Clara died of tuberculosis, Maud's father brought her to Cavendish where she stayed with her maternal grandparents.

In the little museum in New London Montgomery's fans will find a replica of Maud's wedding dress as well as interesting photographs, scrapbooks, letters and newspaper clippings. The upstairs bedrooms are surprisingly charming, featuring some interesting porcelain water pitchers and wash bowls as well as quilts that were made during World War I in order to support the war efforts.
